Salisbury Big Business Event at Salisbury Guildhall

Chris Hemingway MBE at Salisbury Big Business Event

Well the Salisbury Big Business Event is over for another year, but what an event it was.

Our attendance began on Wednesday evening when we photographed speaker Wayne Hemingway MBE for Salisbury Life. We were unable to stay for the talk due to a prior engagement, but those who did said it was very good.

We attended three very informative talks during the day on Thursday, and Mandy stayed and photographed the Levi Roots talk Thursday evening.I attended 3 more talks on Friday, 'Have you got your branding right' by An.X Agency and 'Would you like to use social media more effectively' by Andy Poulton, and 'How to stay ahead of the trend' by Chris Simpson, Wiltshire business Support Service.

The Mayor of the City of Salisbury, Cllr Mrs Penny Brown said, “As the Mayor I was honoured to meet so many businesses from across Wiltshire and even further afield. Salisbury City Council enjoys working in partnership with our fellow sponsors and I have been amazed at the scope of the speakers and their wisdom. One of my highlights was to meet Levi Roots and welcome him to the Guildhall, the speakers including Wayne Hemingway and Andy Reid were inspirational.”

Fleur de Rhe Philipe, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for economic development said: “It is important we continue to support events which create opportunities to boost the local economy.

During these three days businesses with diverse backgrounds shared their knowledge and ideas which I know will have positive impact on future business growth and partnerships in our county.”

If you had a chance to visit the event I hope you had a great time and took away some useful FREE information: I know we did!

If you didn't get to visit the event this time I would respectfully suggest you get ready to put the dates of the 2015 event in your diary as soon as they become available. We will certainly be adding the dates to our diary, I mean where can you get FREE advice with no strings, apart from John Rose Photography of course.

If you would like to see more images captured by us during our visit you can do so in the Salisbury Life gallery on our website.

What do the images on your website and promotional material say about you?

The majority of clients searching for a specific business, product, or service provider will automatically search the internet, before they ever make contact with you.

What draws you to choosing a specific business or service provider when you do a web search - try it? (But remember to come straight back)

Ok so what did you search for?

How many websites did you look at before you were happy with what you saw?

Which site grabbed your attention?

So now ask yourself what it was about that particular website that grabbed your attention and drew you to it?

Like you, I need a website that gives me the answers to my questions easily, without having to fight my way around the site. I need images that grab my attention and show me exactly what I'm searching for. I don't want to have to read loads of text - boring. I want what I'm looking for to jump off the page at me.

So, what does your website and your promotional material say about you and your business?

Do you have images showing your business logo? Are there images of your products, offices, or treatment rooms on your website? If the answer is yes, are your images clear, in focus and personal to your business?

Have you ever had that feeling of de ja vu when looking at images on a website?

1 2 3

While "stock" images have their place, you are far better investing in professional images of your own. I don't just mean images of your office, shop, or place of business - while these are all really very important, you also need to think about the people in your business. The people that your clients see, the faces of your business.

You need to show that you are friendly, approachable, and have nothing to hide. It also helps clients relax, and you will find them to be friendlier when they know who they are talking too within your business. There really are lots of things to think about including images of you and your staff.

You are your business. Your business is personal to you and so should the images that you use to promote your business. A picture is worth a thousand words, so let your pictures speak for themselves.

Well the entry period for the SWBOYA officially closed at 5pm today so if you have forgotten to enter you will need to ring the office and speak very nicely to Amanda to see if she will let you put in a late entry. If you have entered it is now time to get prepared for the upcoming visit of one of the judges. Salisbury's John Rose Photography are again the official photographers for the event so if we do not see you before we will certainly see you on the night of the awards, which if you don't know already is Thursday 27th June at the City Hall, Salisbury. We have also entered 3 categories in the awards, The Salisbury and District Value Cars Outstanding Customer Service Award, last year sponsored by Autocrash and in which we were a finalist, The AN.X Agency Marketing Excellence Award and The FSB Small Business Award (under £500k t/o).

Good Luck to everyone that has entered and remember, by failing to prepare you are preparing to fail.
