Soprano Lynsey Docherty launches "Celebrate Voice"

On Friday 4th July, Celebrate Voice launched with a Riverside Garden Party at Artistic Director Lynsey Docherty's home just outside Salisbury.

Attended by Jo Broom, the Mayor of Salisbury, the party was held as a thank you to sponsors and supporters of this exciting new festival which takes place in October half-term this year. John Rose Photography is pleased to announce that they have become a partner in this exciting new venture.

Lynsey conducted her choir the Riverside Singers who sang a medley of water-based songs, in keeping with the weather that evening, which, rather than dulling proceedings, only seemed to whet people's appetites for more fun and celebrating!

A children's choir gave sparkling renditions of songs and all joined in the chorus of Toreador from Carmen, sung by the electrying baritone Philip Smith who had come from London especially for the occasion. He was joined by mezzo Emma Watkinson (fresh from an English Touring Opera tour) who teased the audience with her sultry and passionate Habanera and coloratura soprano Jane Hughes dazzled with Olympia's ariaLynsey took everyone by surprise, joining in duets with her colleagues to the delight of the audience.

Sponsors and supporters from Chas H Baker, LKL Group, Mark Allen Group and Spire FM as well as private benefactors enjoyed wine and canapés to accompany the evenings entertainment. And of course, the event launched Celebrate Voice - a singing festival - so everyone had the chance to join in!

Finally Lynsey announced the programme of events to include Mercury and MOBO award winning folk, jazz and opera singers, Outreach Programmes and plans for a flash-mob on the market square, as well as a host of family and participants' events. And finally, over £400 was raised on the night through a new 'Friends of the Festival' scheme which proved incredibly popular and showed the level of support for this new singing venture for Salisbury and the community.

Celebrate Voice

In October 2014, a brand new festival celebrating the wonder of the human voice and involving an entire community, Celebrate Voice, launches in Salisbury. The six-day singing celebration will feature the UK’s top professional folk, jazz and opera singers in a host of inspiring concerts, participatory singing events, outreach performances, family concerts and a massed flashmob-style opening - Sing City in Salisbury’s market square for the entire community.

The Festival, which aims to make Salisbury the biggest singing city in the UK, brings together top professionals and the local community with a diverse six-day programme through October half term. Events feature top vocalists in folk, jazz and operatic genres, interactive concerts for the whole family, inspiring workshops for adults and children, a mass-singing open-air launch and a grand finale, featuring  all who have been part of the festival. The workshops will be led by inspiring UK musicians, enabling people of all ages and abilities to take part and to share, connect, laugh and sing! And finally, the professional artists will be giving outreach concerts, taking the magic of their sublime music making and the powerful connectivity of song to people who might not easily have access to concerts, with performances in care homes and schools.

The first festival of its kind in the UK, Celebrate Voice is the brain-child of Salisbury-born singer and vocal animateur, Lynsey Docherty. Alongside her career in opera she has led projects in schools, prisons, care homes, orphanages, and autistic centres both in the UK and abroad. And she has seen the power of singing and music enabling people to connect to one another, to reach out – through self-expression, communication, happiness and growing confidence. She now brings to her home town a host of brilliant colleagues with whom she has been privileged to work over the past fifteen years to create and share with her community a celebration of all things Voice.

The festival was announced at two sell-out concerts produced by Lynsey in Salisbury in December 2013, and within one week Celebrate Voice had gathered 15 volunteers, and £10k worth of support. We look forward to seeing you there!

A Valentine's Day Wedding at The Guildhall, Salisbury

"Life is only as good as the memories we make" Author: The Ataris

Well Chris and Amy certainly made some beautiful memories of their very own on February 14th 2014 – Valentine’s Day. We were with Amy from 9 am capturing the story of her Wedding Day at the Guildhall, Salisbury, to Spire Fm’s Run-Away Bride Groom winner Chris Denning.

With only a few short weeks to arrange their wedding day, we were delighted to support them in their journey. Other service providers on the day included:

Bridal Prep at JAS Hair Group - Wilton

The rain did nothing to dampen the spirits and celebrations of Chris and Amy’s Wedding Day. Although very nervous - as all brides are, Amy was also very excited about marrying her fiancé in the stunning Guildhall.

Arrival at the Guildhall, Salisbury

Wow! The very first words uttered as we saw the stunning wedding gown that Amy was going to be wearing. It really was beautiful; as were the bridesmaids and flower girls dresses, flowers and accessories.

Ceremony at the Guildhall, Salisbury

As guests waited patiently in the Crown Room at the Guildhall, Salisbury, a nervous Chris was taken to see the registrar before Amy arrived. Everyone was so excited about the joining together of these two very special people. Everyone watched the time in anticipation of Amy’s arrival.

As Chris returned to his guests, we could hear the excited whispers letting everyone know that “she’s here!” That was it, the tears from a very excited and nervous mum-of-the-bride started to form in her eyes.

The moment arrived and on the arm of her dad, Amy walked down the aisle to be greeted by a stunned looking Chris. The look on his face when he saw his stunning bride was priceless. It wasn't long before everyone was clapping and cheering as the registrar introduced the new Mr and Mrs Denning.

The partying went well on into the night.
